Kyoto.Tenjin — A Kyoto Machiya Where Stillness Dwells
Tucked away in a peaceful Kyoto neighborhood, Tenjin is a lovingly restored 100-year-old machiya townhouse that welcomes up to eight guests. Named after the divine spirit of serenity, the home embodies quiet strength and inner calm.
Its defining feature lies in three serene courtyards, each inspired by chōzubachi—the stone basins found at temple entrances for purifying hands and spirit.
The front courtyard features a rectangular basin, symbolizing the passage from the outer world into inner stillness. The middle courtyard presents a standing basin that expresses humility and the beauty of wabi-sabi. The rear courtyard, with its rare kasaya-shaped basin, represents the cleansing of the heart—a gentle act of spiritual renewal.
Warm natural wood flows through every corner—floors, beams, tables, and shelves—radiating harmony and the essence of wa, kei, sei, jaku (harmony, respect, purity, tranquility). Here, simplicity itself is a form of luxury.

Layout
1st Floor: Dining for eight / Tatami bedroom with garden view (sleeps 2) / Bathtub facing the garden / Underfloor heating
2nd Floor: Tatami room (up to 4 futons) / Western-style bedroom with king bed / Shower room & separate toilet

At Tenjin, time slows. Sit quietly, watch the ripples of water, and breathe in the stillness. This is more than a place to stay—it’s an invitation to pause, reflect, and experience the true calm of Kyoto.
